The Magma grunt took a smoke of his cigar and calmly resumed the battle. "We'll see how this goes. Koffing, tackle that dog and if it's giving you a hard time, go for another smokescreen!" The koffing hummed as it got its order, and then hovered forward to try to chase down the young pup with a tackle, but the canine easily evades as the Koffing was also sorta blind from the sand attack. Then, when the opportunity strikes, Aleksi kicked up some dust toward the gas ball. The two repeated this for a little bit more. Then, the Koffing suddenly exhaled a fume of smoke in the battle again, making the dark type's vision harder to see. However, the Poochyena wasn't going to let this little smoke get in his way. He ran forward and try to remember where he last saw the Koffing, and opened his mouth just as the smoke was dispersing, and took a bite out of that rotten gas ball. His jaw actually gripped that gas ball!

Day four: Petalburg Woods Aleksi still hadn't taken a single hit, so apart from obviously being blinded by the smoke, she looked fine. Mirella gnawed her lip as she thought about how to continue. The battle would draw out too long with both of them fighting half blind, so it was a given she had to change out at some point. Mirella tried to see if the Magma guy carried more Pokeballs, but it didn't look like it. That would be her biggest advantage, she figured. However, as Aleksi was still physically fine, she saw no reason to change out immediately. The Pooch had spirit and looked angry. Mirella better letter her put some of that anger to use. "You're doing great, Aleksi. Keep trying to bite it. I got your back." she promised, without giving away her plan for the near future. However, she couldn't hold out forever. She waited till Aleksi had tried 2 more times, and then she picked out a second Pokeball. It was time Whiskas was allowed to take a shot at battle again, and even though water was far away, he could handle it, she was sure. Aleksi dind't indicate she was listening. She was busy trying to keep track of the Koffing. The smoke didn't only blind her eye sight, but stung in her nose and made it difficult for her to sniff out her prey. She could only really rely on her hearing, and she wasn't as practised in the art of listening for prey. And the Koffing was floating around. It wasn't like she would be able to hear feet scraping the ground. She made an effort though. Having already gotten ahold of the Koffing once, had made her taste blood. Despite the poisonous feel of the thing, she wasn't afraid to tear into it again. Wordcount: 301

The Poochyena aggressively tried to bite the lil smoker a few more times, running around, back and forth, while barking and maybe timing herself before leaping toward the opponent. She did landed a hit once, giving the Koffing a taste of her painful teeth as she sank into the opponent. The grunt sighed, poor puppy wasting her energy only to land one hit after so long. "Let's try smog this time, Koffing?" he stopped his cigar for a bit to switch up his strategy. Now the poison type was releasing toxic-infused smoke instead of regular annoying smoke. While the first time missed Poochyena completely as she ran away the other direction, when Whiskas entered the fray, he was clouded by the poisonous gas and found himself getting sick.

Mirella endured having to watch Aleksi run about without really getting a good grasp of the opponent. At least she got the Koffing one time, and it even looked to be a good bite, a strong one. "Well done keeping up despite the smoke, Aleksi. Get back now." she called as she made the change to Whiskas. Mirella was relieved she didn't have to keep up some kind of conversation. She could focus fully on the battle, which seemed to be the Magma's way for the moment. A new cloud from the Koffing met her Whiskas, and Mirella narrowed her eyes at the look of it. It looked different from the smokescreen, more colored and dense, and her suspicion was immediately confirmed as Whiskas didn't look well, when the smoke disappeared. "It's alright, Whiskas," she soothed "You can handle it for a little bit. Give it a shot of water, and keep at it for as long as possible." she told him her plan and watched him draw on his inner water reserves. Hopefully it wouldn't take too long to faint the Koffing now. Otherwise she might need to throw a berry in to help later. Whiskas couldn't say he was prepared for the poison attack. He was only just getting his bearings when it hit, and now he had to fight nausea along with the opponent. But at least it wasn't entirely new to him, as he had experienced poisoning from the Shroomish in Petalburg Woods before. It helped too that poison didn't hurt Whiskas so much as others. It was only really the sensation of needing to throw up that was disturbing, and he got easier tired, so he had to work fast. He did as told, as soon the first wave of nausea settled. As he gulped up water and tried to hit the Koffing, he sort of hoped the sense of water through his throat would soften the feeling of the poisoning a bit. Wordcount: 328
(Ooc: Whiskas uses Water Gun times 3. I'm assuming the Koffing's hp in round 8 is an error, and it's down to 16 hp instead of 28.)

Even though Whiskas was feeling sick from the smog, he was able to fire an accurate Water Gun at the foe, splattering the gas ball with a dose of refreshing water, just what the Koffing didn't need! The poison type, albeit a jolly fellow, listened to its trainer's command and went forward for a tackle, floating toward the water Pokemon and tried to slammed Whiskas as hard as it could. Either the Barboach's slippery body helped ease some damage, or he was just as experienced in battle to help lessen the damage. Whiskas then fired another Water Gun again, and knocked the smoker out of its stamina. "Drats, I got beat by a trainer," The grunt cursed, and hastily returned his Pokemon as well as giving Mirella her winning prize money. He angrily threw his cigar on the ground and stepped on it, smearing with his foot to put the flames away and whatever good feeling he had for the day. His Koffing might have some tricks on its own, but he was beat by a Team Aqua grunt in training, which he didn't know about. The grunt disappeared as fast as his Koffing's smoke on the field disappeared, getting ready to vent his lost back in Magma hideout. When Mirella was ready, Kaedan and his driver would return from hiding and drove by where she was standing, and picked her up to return to the city she was in, as well as handing her a uniform. They would congratulate her on her victory well done, as well as officially becoming an official Team Aqua member!

Mirella allowed herself to cheer like one of the younger trainers she had seen once, fist in the air and all smiles. "Thank you for the battle." she said gratefully, and accepted the money, while she tried not to be disturbed by his display of anger of the loss. His reaction could have been worse, but she was still happy when he disappeared to recuperate his Koffing. Even more so because she had succeeded the test or mission without giving away who she was fighting for. She recalled Whiskas and walked a bit away from the place, where she had seen the Magma grunt at first. She didn't want to risk meeting another one already, and that way it wasn't too obvious when the car picked her up again. On the way back to Rustboro, she didn't know how to take the congratulations from the others. She thanked them though, and kept a polite smile on her face. She hid the uniform away when she got it, so she could look at it later in private, and then waved as they drove away. It was time to finally visit her father now she was in Rustboro anyway. She only needed to get back to Petalburg before night, as she hadn't brought anything for a sleepover. Wordcount: 215
