It seemed like no matter where she headed, Noelle always ended up going around in circles.
"This can't be right..." Noelle sighed, as she looked around, realizing that once again she found herself in Mauville City. She could've sworn she had been going in a straight line, but apparently it was in the wrong direction. The disoriented trainer sat down in a nearby bench, staring at her PokeGear. Sure, its Map was restricted to Johto, and it didn't even register her to be anywhere, but it's not like if it worked, Noelle would suddenly know how to read it.
As she looked at the clock, she didn't even want to think that she wasted a few hours traveling in circles. She sighed deeply, and pulled up the phone application. It was time to ask Matt for help.
"Hi, this is Matt..."
"Hi, big brother. It's me, Noe-"
"...and I can't answer the phone right now. Please leave a message, and your number, and I'll ignore it. So... yeah, just... just hang up now. Go away."
The phone went silent for a bit. Noelle frowned. She didn't even know these things had a voicemail feature.
"...is that it? So I just hang up? Oh, shit, it's still recording? Well, it's not lik-"
The recording was suddenly cut off by a sharp beep. Knowing very well that leaving a message would be futile, she simply hung up, and tossed her PokeGear into her bag.
"Oh well..." Noelle said, as she slung her bag behind her back. Maybe she'd pick a different direction to go in?

A slight frown touched Merit's fair face as she exited the Pokemon Center and made her way outside. The summer sun quickly kissed her pale skin and start to warm up her body. It was quite obvious that the golden-haired female was not expecting the warm sun to be so overbearing today. For a few seconds, Merit almost made the decision to make her way back inside of the Pokemon Center. Instead, she decided to attempt to fight through the intense heat. The aspiring Pokemon trainer had to continue on her journey and make her way towards the Pokemon Gym that was awaiting her arrival. The golden rays beamed relentlessly over her entire body, causing beads of sweat to drip down her forehead. A deep sigh escaping from her full lips as she took a clean cloth from out of her back pack and wiped away the beads of sweat dripping down from her forehead and eye brow. "This heat is so intense today. It almost hurts too much to breath." She spoke softly to herself. She would then glance over at the Pichu, who was hanging from her right shoulder. "Are you okay, Zeus?" Merit asked the small mouse-like Pokemon. Zeus let out a soft sigh and nodded his head. "Aww, you're not enjoying this heat either, huh? Maybe, we can find someone selling some ice cream or maybe even lemonade." She spoke, a soft smile touching her lips. The thought of some sweet ice cream or refreshing lemonade starting to cheer her up a bit.
Merit and Zeus continued to walk along the long path leading through Mauville. It was not long before the duo found themselves encountering another young female trainer around Merit's age. Merit could tell that the mysterious female seem to have been a little bewildered or possibly lost? A warm and friendly smile curved against Merit's lips as she slowly started to make her way over towards the other female. "Hi there! I couldn't help, but to notice that you seem a little distressed. Are you okay?" She asked with a concerned expression shown on her face.

Noelle, now self-consicious that she looked all upset, attempted to force a smile. It wasn't the best smile; it looked like someone who had just commited arson. Which, let's be honest, she only wishes. She simply just stared at her feet for a bit.
"Umm..." Noelle prefaced, as her creepy smile returning back to a much more natural frown. "I'm just not sure where to go."
Sighing, Noelle finally looked up at the girl talking to her. She was a trainer, just like her, except she definitely emanated much more confidence than herself. At least she was friendly. She only really had exposure to another trainer, and Noelle couldn't shake off the feeling that he was nothing more than a randomly generated non-entity that she would never see again.
Of course, that was just crazy talk. This was real life, after all.
Noelle extended her hand, and finally mustered something resembling a natural smile. It wasn't a very big one, but at least it looked genuine. "Hi, I'm Noelle. I'm a Pokemon Trainer. Um, not a very good one, but I'm working on it."

Merit's piercing green eyes continued to study Noelle's body language for a few more seconds. The golden-haired trainer could help, but to feel that perhaps the other female lack a little bit of confidence from some reason or maybe she was just a little on the shy side. Either way, Merit would continue to flash her a warm and welcoming smile. "Ah, you're a little lost? Well, that's okay. It happens to be best of us sometimes. Where are you wanting to go? Perhaps, I could help you find your way or at least give you some directions." She spoke, smiling a little more at Noelle.
It was long before Noelle had managed to muster up enough confidence to introduce herself. "Hi there Noelle. It's nice to meet you. I'm Merit. I'm also a Pokemon trainer, too!" She introduced herself and extend her hand for a friendly handshake. The small Pichu hanging from her shoulder let out a soft coo and waved his small hand at Noelle. "Oh yeah, this little one is Zeus." She smiled, introducing her Pokemon. "What do you mean by you're not a good one? Are you just now starting off on your journey, too?" She asked arching her eye a bit. Merit could not help, but to wonder why the other female trainer seem to be so hard on herself. "I'm a new trainer and I'll like to think that I'm a pretty good trainer, so far. Of course, there is always some room for improvement." She added, shrugging her shoulders a bit.

Noelle thought for a moment. Where DID she want to go? She was literally just trying to find her way around, although she mostly just wanted to get out of Mauville City, which, while a nice city full of technology, she seemed to keep returning to no matter what. Noelle just really wanted to leave.
Thankfully, however, before Noelle could even muster up an answer, Merit introduced herself. "Oh, umm... it's nice to meet you, Merit. All of my Pokemon are in their Poke Balls right now. It gets messy when I have more than two out at a time."
When Merit inquired about her self-evaluation, Noelle bit her bottom lip a bit. "Um... well, I don't know. I don't tend to have a high perception of me when it comes to training so far. I mostly stumble into my victories, and then when I do win out of my own accord, I fry a Wingull to almost-death."
Noelle adjusted her bag as it slid down. "But I'm working on it. My brother just made it all look so easy, though..."

Merit waited for Noelle to answer her previous question regarding to where was it that she wished to travel. However, Noelle did not seem to have an answer for her. Perhaps, Noelle was not too sure where she wanted to go at this point or maybe her thoughts were racing so quickly that she could not even concentrate on her desired destination at the time. "Well, I'm actually from Mauville. So, if you would like to have a tour of the city then I wouldn't mind helping you out with that part." Merit suggested with a soft smile. She figured that it would be a good way to make a new friend and possibly even help to bring Noelle out of her shell a little more. "Ah! So you have more than one Pokemon? I would love to know which Pokemon you have captured so far." She stated glancing over at Noelle. "So far. I have a Pichu, Torchic and Oddish. I also have a Plusle and Electrike, but I do not travel with them at the moment. I believe that one electric-type is enough for me right now." She giggled turning her attention away Noelle then glancing over at Zeus.
"Hmm, we will have to work on that confidence of yours. Though, I'm sure that you will start to become more confident over time after meeting new Pokemon and winning more Pokemon battles." She stated, offering some encouraging words to Noelle. "You just have to remember that you're still new to this. So, it might take some time before you get the hang of things and that's okay." She added, gently pressing her right hand against Noelle's shoulder for a few seconds. "It's pretty hot out here. I was hoping to find some ice cream or lemonade around here somewhere. Would you care to join us?" She asked, extending an invite to Noelle.

"Yes. I have... um, I think five... yeah, five Pokemon. I found a runaway Torchic on my first day, my brother sent me a Fletchling on my next, and then these two mice whose species names I can't remember, but I named them after my two favorite scientists: Nikola Tesla and Andre-Marie Ampere." As Noelle went on and on about her Pokemon, her demeanor took quite a noticeable turn. She actually stood up straight, and her voice perked up. Instead of the dejected Noelle of earlier, her mood turned much more jovial and social.
"Oh, and the other day... some weird courier gave me this." Noelle took out a small egg in her bag, immediately turning the then-full bag into a flimsy pile of emptiness. On the opposite side of the egg, there was a sticky note that Noelle seemed oblivious of. It read: 'Hi, sis. I found this, and it won't hatch. Take it, before I make it into an omelette.'
"So... I guess that's technically four, and an egg. But it's going to be a while until the egg hatches. I think. It should still be at least 127,391 steps until it hatches... or so that book said." Noelle said, holding the egg close to her chest.
"Um, as for something to drink... there's a stand right near the town's... er- entrance, or exit... that I kept circling as I was attempting to leave. They sell all sorts of snacks, but I never really bought anything." Noelle said, holding her finger to her chin, trying to think of where it was, eventually point northbound when she remembered exactly where it was.
"I didn't really realize it's that hot. I feel like the weather's quite nice, actually." Noelle said, as she began to lead the way towards the stand. "I like the heat. In fact, my brother suggested I go to Lavaridge City and hang out in the hot springs. But then he told me 'do NOT tell Flannery we're related...' Something about it being for my own good... In any case, I think that's where I was headed before I accidentally returned to Mauville for the third time."

Merit smiled at Noelle. "That is pretty cool. We seem to have capture the same amount of Pokemon, so far. I actually have a Torchic, too. Torchic is actually my starter Pokemon. Oh, Fletchling? That sounds like a rare Pokemon. I don't believe that I've seen one of those around here yet. Hmm, two mice, huh? I'm willing to bet that those two are Minun and Plusle. The duo seem to be quite common around these parts. Those nicknames are pretty cute too by the way!" She stated as another smile touched her lips. Merit felt a little relieved to see that Noelle seem to have been allowing herself to relax a little more now.
Merit's eyes soon widen as she watched Noelle pull out a Pokemon Egg. "Awesome. I actually have a Pokemon egg of my own, too. It was a gift from my father. He refuses to tell me what is inside of it though." She sighed as she shook her head a couple of times. She was almost dying to know what would hatch out of her Pokemon egg. She carefully pulled out a small gray egg from her back pack and showed it to Noelle. She would then turn her attention back towards Noelle's egg, only to notice that there seem to have been a note attached to it. "Hey, you do know that there is a note attached to your egg, right?" She questioned Noelle.
"Yeah, there's a stand close towards the entrance now that I think about it. I believe that they also sell soda pops there, too!" She stated a little excitement in her voice. Zeus even let out a cheerful coo along with his trainer. "Huh? Wait? You're telling me that you're related to Flannery? The Gym leader?" She asked in awe as she started to lead them towards the refreshment stand.

Noelle took a look at the egg's note and let out a small giggle. She folded it neatly and put the note away, once again pressing the egg to her torso.
When Merit seemed to understand instead that Noelle said she was related to Flannery, she widened her eyes as she shook her head.
"Oh, no, no. I'm not related to her. I've never even met her. I think my brother was simply trying to warn me not to tell Flannery that I'm related to him in case I do meet her." Noelle said, letting out a small shrug at the end. "I really don't know what he did to tick her off, but I'm absolutely sure he did something. I'd... rather not know, though. For my own good."
As they arrived to the stand, Noelle glazed over at the selection given, not necesarily hungry or thirsty at the moment. Instead, her eyes quickly jumped at the magazine and newspaper rack. The news were quite typical and boring, but one specific headline caught her attention: 'Cave-in at Mt. Silver; Perpetrator Arrested.' Noelle could very well remember Matt last say he was at the Mt. Silver Pokemon Center... oh, boy.
Sighing, Noelle decided to ignore the headline, and return her attention to the stand. Maybe it was someone else in trouble. Simply taking a small Fresh Water, she took out a crumpled bill from her pocket and unfolded it neatly, before handing it to the shopkeeper. She then turned to Merit. "What are you getting?"

"Ah, okay." Merit spoke, clearly still feeling a little confused over the whole being related to Flannery thing. Merit would shrug her shoulders and chuckle a bit. It was any of her business to be honest. Therefore, she decided not to ask anymore questions regarding that topic. Merit would give her small, silver egg a soft hug before gently placing it back inside of her bag for safe keeping. For what she could tell, her egg was too close to hatching at the time.
Merit's emerald green eyes carefully scanned over the various beverages that the stand had to offer them. "So many amazing options!" She stated with a huge grin. Zeus started to wave his tiny arms in excitement as he glanced over the different choices, too. "I think I'm going to take a lemonade. It would be quite refreshing." She smiled at Noelle then turned her attention towards the vendor. She would then ordered herself a cool and refreshing glass of lemonade. "Mmm, this is so delicious!" She smiled after taking a nice and slow sip from out of her lemonade. Of course, she would remember to share some with Zeus, too. The tiny mouse-like Pokemon coo in pure bliss as the lemonade hit his taste buds. "You like it, too. huh?" She giggled glancing over at her partner.
While wanting for Noelle to make her decision. Merit found herself turning her attention towards a group of trainers conversing about the sight of a rare Pokemon of some sort. "Hmm, a rare Pokemon? I wonder what it could be. I would love to find it." She spoke under her breath a bit. It was quite possible that Noelle would be able to hear her comment regarding the rare Pokemon. Perhaps the two of them could attempt to find it together.

As soon as she heard the statement. Noelle's eyes shone a bit in determination. She had seen more than one documentary regarding rare, exotic Pokemon. Sometimes they talked about Red Gyarados, sometimes about Latios and Latias, and then she remembered this one time some weird kid in a yellow hat let some dogs loose around Johto. It didn't matter that she was this early in her career as a trainer, the prospect of going out to find a hidden treasure in the form of a legendary Pokemon made the young trainer excited and antsy.
"...but where would we even start?" Noelle muttered softly, her excitable demeanor quickly crushed by the fact that she literally didn't know any landmarks in Hoenn where anything important could be.

The group of trainers were talking quite loudly from the excitement, but the weather was also bogging down on them to even go out in the heat for too long. "Is this true? I don't think anyone has seen it, and last time you said that you just found a shiny Wingull," one of the trainer replied, thinking his group was lying or something. "No, no, this one was really rare! Or so I heard from this woman when I was heading toward Pokemon Center! Like nobody had seen it before! I thought Absol was rare too, but this one was even rarer!" He defended himself, trying to make sure his claim was as truthful as he could sound it. The two went on bickering after, while the other trainers were taking sides based on rumors, how they knew each other, and each others' personality. After like five minutes, a confident Pokemon Ranger was wheeling in some fallen Pokemon that she seemed to have picked up. Borrowing a wagon that construction workers aren't using it right now because it's too hot, she wheeled in a few Pokemon who were needing some medial attention. Two Magnemites's body seemed to be releasing heat from their metallic body, and also who looked pretty close to passing out as their eyes were struggling to stay open. A Gloom with tip of some petals burnt, and her Hitmonlee was holding two Pelippers, who seemed to be caught in the heat and looking weak. "Nurse Joy, this is Ranger Mia! I've found some Pokemon who would need your help!" she hollered. Nurse Joy and her two Chansey responded and began separating the Pokemon to their individual stretchers that fit their size. After the ranger explained the condition she found each of them in, Nurse Joy and Chanseys began wheeling them in to treatment room to be looked after. She also made sure to drop off a Pokeball containing her Mankey to be looked after. Perhaps, this ranger was coming in at the right time regarding this rare Pokemon. For now, she went to the vending machine nearby the entrance and got herself three cans of fresh cold soda, for herself, her Mankey, and her Hitmonlee to cool down.
This Ranger might have some clues to where the rare Pokemon was. Noelle: 1368 words added to egg Merit: 1534 words added to egg

Merit was about to fix her mouth to response to Noelle's previous question. However, she soon found her attention shifting back towards the group of trainers, who appeared to be conversing about the siting of the rare Pokemon. A couple of soft giggles escaped from Merit's mouth as she listened to the trainers argue a bit with each other. "I'm not sure where we should start searching for this rare Pokemon at yet, but perhaps if we can find the lady that those other trainers are talking about then maybe she will be able to help us!" Merit replied in excitement as she glanced back over at her new friends. It was quite obvious that Merit had become fascinated on searching for the rare Pokemon.
A few minutes later, Merit and the other trainers hanging around the Pokemon Center soon noticed a confident ranger and her Pokemon escorting a few weakened Pokemon into the Pokemon Center. "Oh, no. Those poor Pokemon. I wonder what could have happened to them. Could it have been due to the intensive heat or do you think that this rare Pokemon may have had something to do with it?" Merit questioned as she watched the kind-hearted Nurse and her Pokemon rush towards the weakened Pokemon's side. The ranger, who referred to herself as Mia had managed to depart from the scene in order to grab herself and her Pokemon a refreshing drink. Merit saw this as the perfect opportunity to seek some answers. "Noelle. I bet that Pokemon ranger knows about what's going on around here. Let's go ask here!" Merit suggested before running off into the direction of Mia and her Pokemon.
"Umm...Excuse me...Ranger Mia... I'm Merit and this is my friend Noelle. We are wondering if you wouldn't mind telling us what's going on with this Wild Pokemon that you rescued a few minutes ago. Are they going to be okay? And have you heard about the sighting of a rare Pokemon?" She questioned the older woman. A soft blush soon touching her cheeks as she realized that she had bombarded Ranger Mia with all types of questions.
Note: Thanks Tiki! <3
