Lillian couldn't really say she was much of a fan of heat. True, she grew up near the water and probably learned how to swim before she could even walk. But she liked to stay cool, so when this heat wave hit, the blue haired girl was pretty bummed. Not much could be done during the day, as it just caused her clothes to become soaked with sweat and her to become fatigued rather quickly. She thought that perhaps returning to Slateport for a little while would reduce the chances of such things, however the opposite occurred; of course there would be an increased chance of sunshine here of all places. But she supposed being around water frequently was much better than being on a open route where you didn't have to worry about getting lost just for a bit of shade.
Lillian found herself returning from the beach on this day; light clothes covering her bathing suit as she headed back home. The city seemed quiet, no one wanting to venture out into the heat unless they really needed to. Marsh rested in her arms, either worn out from their day at the beach, from the sheer heat of the day, or both. She really couldn't blame him. She was worn out as well, and probably had a sunburn from not putting on enough sunscreen. She just hoped her bed was just as comfortable as she thought it was.

Worn out and looking forward to relaxing back in the bed, Lillian was on her way back from Slateport beach when she noticed something. The wild Pokemon on the streets seemed to be more than usual, scattered but not close together. They were hiding in the shades as best as they could. Some of the flying Pokemon, upon smelling the sea salt wafting from the ocean or from Lillian's body, suddenly remembered that there's an ocean nearby, and began calling and flying and flocking in that direction. Some of the smaller Pokemon hopped on them for a ride, and the sky was filled with basically Wingulls and their attachment riding Pokemon for a few seconds, and then the scene went back to the dreadful hotness again.
As the weather seemed to remain hot as ever, an elderly trainer, with white hair but a shining smile, walked up to Lillian and said, "Young lady, it's hot out here, you should take a break indoor and cool off."
He gave Marsh a little high five, and then disappeared on his way to his home, presumably. Even in this weather, the old man was able to keep his composure and maintain optimism.

Lillian couldn't help but feel bad for the few residents who still roamed the streets; most of whom were Pokemon. At least she had air conditioning to go home to. The poor little critters couldn't find solace in an actual house (or a house to humans, at least).
At least, that was what she thought, until a flock of Pokemon overtook the skies to make their way to the sea. On such a hot and dreary day, she really couldn't blame them (even if the sight was rather odd). Marsh didn't move much from his place in his trainers arms; stirring only slightly when shadows passed them quickly from above. He seemed still worn out, really. Poor thing.
Once Lillian was sure that the strange event had ended, the blue haired girl turned to leave -- only to be stopped by an elderly trainer passing by them. Lillian was caught off guard by the sight of him -- she really hadn't expected anyone else to be out, much less an elderly fellow who didn't seem too affected by the hear -- that she hardly missed what the man said to her. Marsh weakly returned the high five given to him, keeping one eye open as the man passed the duo to where ever he had to be.
"Well that was odd," Lillian muttered, turning her head to watch the man walk briskly away and out of sight before focusing ahead. "Ah, well, he's not wrong!" she went on, picking up the pace a bit. "It's not too far from home, now. But maybe if we spot something we like on the way back, maybe he can stop for a treat. If we don't die of a heat stroke beforehand, that is."
"Mudkip," Marsh groaned.
Even a water type could hardly handle his day at the beach. Lillian was sure, now, they'd both drop of a heart attack on the way back. Hopefully, nothing would find her before a human did.

After seeing the flying Pokemon fleeing to the ocean and the old man's strange and eccentric behavior, they walked in the heat for a while and saw another strange thing going on. Nearby a Pokemon Center, was a portable ice cream stand, the ones you see with wheel and around festivals and things. A man and a woman were seen trying to holler everyone to get their ice cream, as something seemed to be broken. They were standing in a shaded area, and people only came out a few at a time from the Pokemon Center to wait in line, and it seemed like they were just giving away ice cream and their business cards for free, before the food would go bad from the broken machine.
It wasn't sure if the man and woman were related or just worked together, but one have a Victreebel using its vine to beckon people to come for ice cream, and then the other had a Chimecho ringing its bell in a soothing and charming tune to draw people to look at them.

They weren't walking long when Marsh suddenly perked up from his spot in Lillian's arms. She blinked, looking down at him before realizing he was staring at something nearby. Lillian turned her head to realize they were near the Pokemon Center now. And it looked as though there was a vendor -- or two, maybe even four if you counted the Pokemon -- selling ice cream. Or rather, giving it away because something seemed to be wrong with their machine. The water type in her arms poked at his trainer with his nub for legs; Lily could tell it was because of the sight of something cool and refreshing. Ice cream sounded good right about now, actually.
"Hey, yeah! No person in their right mind would turn down free ice cream, right?" Lillian asked the little Pokemon, before making her way to the crowd of people looking to get in on the free ice cream.
Granted, Marsh seemed a little bit more interested in the odd looking Pokemon once they got closer and the line began to move, but it was nice waiting when there was the combination of the melody from the Chimeco, and the odd aroma that the Victreebell gave off as the Pokemon helped lure people over to the stand. Too bad Marsh didn't know any ice type moves yet; maybe that might have helped the owners keep the ice cream cold longer. It seemed like a waste of money to just give all of this ice cream away. But, they seemed to be handing out their business cards, and free samples en mass like this would no doubt give them a booming business in the future.

The ice cream vendors asked what type of ice cream the young trainer and the Mudkip would want, and then proceed to hand her one business card as usual. After they had left the store and continued walking, a Wingull suddenly dove downward in front of them, as if dodging something. That strange sight was followed by a sudden increase in heat for a few seconds. Then, another Wingull about 90 degrees from that one also dove down, and landed on something to hide. The heat disappeared for a couple seconds, but suddenly the sky seemed to have a screeching noise.
The noise sounded quite in pain, and it seemed to be fading from the direction facing north of Slateport City, which might have translated to the noise was traveling north. However, if Lillian would looked up the sky, the intensity of the sun's ray and the amount of buildings in the area wasn't helpful to see what caused the sound just now. Perhaps, the heat wave was caused by this strange noise? Marsh cried toward the fading noise, feeling as if something was going awry.
Once the Wingulls had finished panting, they seemed to have sighed and cawed at each other. Then, they both flew toward Slateport beach, where every Pokemon seemed to be heading to relax. There was barely anyone on the street to notice this, possible exhausted by the heat or distracted by other things.

There was defiantly no regret getting the ice cream from trainer or Pokemon as they wandered into the shade to eat their sweet treat; they were stopped short, however, as a Wingull dove down in front of them, making Lillian screech in surprise and drop one of the ice creams in hand. Lillian pouted, and went to offer hers to Marsh when another dove down, finding a hiding place from the ever growing heat. What was going on? This heat was practically unbearable and only seemed to be getting worse.
The other ice cream was quickly dropped when a screech noice filled the air, causing Marsh to momentarily try to cover his ears for the long moments the noise stretched out for. The noise stopped as quickly as it came, and Pokemon and trainer gave each other an odd look before watching the Wingull head towards the beach.
"So weird," Lillian muttered to herself. "Say, Marsh, what do you say to another trip to the beach today?"
If anything, going there might answer a few questions. If wasn't as if anyone else was going to do it -- the streets seemed mostly barren as everyone fled towards their homes after getting what they needed. Worse case scenario they cool down more after they reach the beach. Marsh gave an annoyed sound in retort, however that went unheard as Lillian headed towards the beach anyhow, hoping to figure out what was going on.

As they were making their way back to the beach, another strange thing happened. They were quite close to the city's edge when this event happened. Some far distance in front of her, there was a figure wearing clothes that would certainly be too hot for this weather, a coat and probably boots. The figure could be barely made out, as it was moving at a quick and steady speed. The figure was also heading toward the beach as well. As if that wasn't strange enough, there was a large shadow that flew overhead just now. Judging by the frame of the body, it seemed to be an evolved Pokemon, a Pokemon that would not normally lives in Slateport area, and someone's Pokemon. Could they be related to each other?
Some of the wild Pokemon looked up over head, and then went back to their hot summer day laze. To add salt to the mystery, there was another screech coming from the beach's direction, the same screech as before. To an untrained ear, most people certainly wouldn't have heard of this noise, but yet it sounded Pokemon. Could it be a screech for help or a cry in pain? There was one way to found out, follow the noise, the figure, and the flying Pokemon.

The walk to the beach was more excruciating than she thought. This heat was going to eventually Lillian before too long -- it was more than just a tiny but unbearable. But she couldn't help but wonder where that screeching sound was coming from, or why more than just the Wingull seemed interested in the water at the beach (most other non-water type flying Pokemon seemed to just sink after a few moments in the water if emerged, as their feathers weren't as adept for the water like a Pokemon like Wingull's might be).
Marsh was still now somewhat alert to their surroundings, if only because of the water they were approaching, as they neared the beach. It was a person in front of them that somewhat caught Lillian off track. Most people who couldn't find a way to keep themselves cool during this strange heat wave had ran back indoors for shelter in their, nice air conditioned houses. This person, however, seemed to be heading towards the same place they were. What made things even stranger was that this person was wearing what appeared to be clothing meant for much cooler weather. That made Lillian a little suspicious; who else would come out dressed like that besides some type of criminal, right?
"How strange," Lillian muttered, which was quickly followed by, "Hm?"
A shadow overhead passed them quickly, as if following the figure as well. Lillian and Marsh both shot their heads up to see a rather large flying type cruising along towards the beach as well. Lillian squinted her eyes at the Pokemon. It didn't seem to have the build of any kind of Pokemon she knew of, from what she could tell. And it was too big to be any kind of unevolved Pokemon, much less the shape to fit the description of any evolved Pokemon that lived near the water, either. Now this was defiantly getting strange.
"Hey, maybe that person knows what's going on?" Lillain asked aloud, looking to Marsh. "Or, at least, he knows what kind of Pokemon that is that's flying up there. He looks really suspicous, though."
"Mud Mudkip!" Marsh replied, nodding in agreement.
"I know! Let's try to follow him to see where he goes. But we have to try and be quiet, though!"
Marsh nodded again, and Lillian looked back up -- only to squeal and then stop herself when she realized the figure had gotten a little too far ahead. Lillian held tight to Marsh and sprinted ahead, trying not to be seen by the figure as they followed them onto the beach -- and, hopefully, towards the sounds.

As they finally approached the beach, the coast was very much crowded. There were Pokemon that don't usually live by the beach hanging about in the shallow water, such as a number of Zigzagoons and Poochyena just sitting down in the cool water. Some larger Pokemon could be seen floating in the deeper end. Near these relaxing Pokemon was a Pokemon ranger, in her orange and black outfit, tending some poor burnt Pokemon with her treatment. If Lillian was stealthy enough, she could slip past the ranger without interrogated, just like the man running in front of her, who was wearing clothes too warm for this bloody weather.
Further down in the beach, there seems to be a battle going on. That area also seemed to be cleared of relaxing Pokemon. The sky echoed another loud screech, making all the Pokemon nearby coward in fear. As the loud screech became louder, a large shadow gradually loomed on the sandy beach. The creature had orange feathers all over its avian body, and fires coming out of its tail, crown, and the ends of the wings. Whether or not those were fires or feathers that looked like fire was a different question, but the Pokemon who landed certainly made the area felt hotter.
The Pokemon seemed to be retaliating against another Pokemon, and unleashed a volley of fire attacks. One of them nearly landed on Lillian overhead. Thankfully, a gracious Pelipper used Protect to block the attack, nullifying the fire attack. Another Volbeat flew from the cool water, and speedily blocked another attack at an angle where the Pelipper's influence can't reach. Phew!
Up ahead, there seemed to be a clearing in the beach where no relaxing Pokemon stayed, and a bigger battle seemed to be ongoing.
